About UPM

We are a union representing the faculty of the Marin Community College District and are an affiliate American Federation of Teachers, Local 161.

Our Mission
The mission of this Union is to safeguard the better interests of our  students in every manner and by every means within our power; and to raise the standards of the teaching profession by protecting and advancing the economic and professional interests of  our members.

“Trade-unions have done more for humanity than any other organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race, for the developing of character in man, than any other association of men.”

Clarence Darrow, 1909

Our labor unions are not narrow, self-seeking groups. They have raised wages, shortened hours and provided supplemental benefits. Through collective bargaining and grievance procedures, they have brought justice and democracy to the shop floor.
